Axlr8r Formula Racing
Axlr8r Formula Racing is a team of 35 undergraduate students who come together driven by the passion of electrifying the Indian future. Each year we design and fabricate a Formula-style Electric race car to compete in Formula Student competitions, which are the “World’s Biggest University Level Design Competitions”. We recently developed our 6th electric race car with a 400 VDC battery pack, 2-wheel drive with E-differential through software, and multiple autonomous functionalities.
We are proud to be the first Indian Electric Team to clear technical inspection at Formula Student Germany, meeting stringent standards on par with the German racing benchmarks, and qualifying for dynamic events. At FSAE Italy 2022, we not only cleared all technical inspections but also clinched 1st place in the Cost and Manufacturing Event and ranked 8th in vehicle reliability—a testament to our robust engineering and meticulous design approach.
Our legacy includes being the first and only Indian Electric Team to secure two podium finishes in a single international event at FSAE Australasia 2020, a milestone that showcases our consistency and competitiveness on the global stage.
Nationally, we’ve dominated the field with:
- Most awards won at Formula Bharat 2021
- 3rd Position at Formula Bharat 2022
- Consecutive championships across various domains throughout the decade
These achievements reflect our unwavering commitment to innovation, precision, and continuous improvement. As a team, we are dedicated to pushing boundaries and setting new standards in electric motorsport.
Our team, Axlr8r Formula Racing, is focused on continuing its legacy of innovation and excellence in electric motorsport. With Formula Bharat 2026 on the horizon, we are committed to pushing engineering boundaries and inspiring the next generation of student innovators through collaboration and cutting-edge design.
This 8-minute after movie captures the unforgettable journey of Axlr8r Formula Racing at Formula Bharat 2022 — from the pits to the podium. Go behind the scenes with us as we relive the hard work, challenges, and celebrations that made this edition truly special.
We rely heavily on custom-designed PCBs across our core electronics verticals to ensure high performance, reliability, and safety in our electric race car. Our systems incorporate 35+ PCBs, including 4 custom-built ECUs featuring STM32 microcontrollers at their core. These PCBs are critical for enabling data transmission, control logic, and system integration.
1. Data Acquisition & Telemetry
- Gathers real-time data from sensors across the car (e.g., wheel speed, suspension, temperature, current, voltage).
- Sends data for live monitoring and post-run analysis.
- PCBs are designed with STM32 microcontrollers for fast processing and CAN-based communication.
2. EV Powertrain Control
- Manages inverter commands, motor control, torque vectoring, and throttle response.
- Ensures seamless interaction between the driver inputs and drivetrain output.
- Utilizes dedicated PCBs for signal conditioning, safety interlocks, and real-time decision-making.
3. Safety Electronics & BMS (Battery Management System)
- Implements high-voltage interlocks, insulation monitoring, and emergency shutoff circuits.
- The BMS ensures balanced charging/discharging, thermal monitoring, and fault detection for the accumulator.
- PCBs are designed to meet FSAE EV safety norms, integrating opto-isolation, redundant safety paths, and STM32-based logic.
The team would greatly benefit from the support of PCBWay. As a student-led team committed to designing and building cutting-edge electric race cars for international competitions, we face ongoing challenges in sourcing and manufacturing high-quality components within tight budget and time constraints. Access to fast, reliable PCB prototyping would allow us to iterate quickly and involve more students in the design and testing process—enhancing both our technical capabilities and our learning outcomes.
Our projects span across multiple domains, including the development of one of India’s most reliable electric formula cars and our ongoing efforts in building a fully driverless vehicle for upcoming competitions. With over 35+ PCBs in use, including STM32-based ECUs, every system—from battery management and powertrain control to safety-critical electronics—relies on precise, high-quality circuit boards.
Support from PCBWay would not only help us meet our performance goals but also empower a new generation of student engineers to innovate, collaborate, and lead the future of sustainable motorsport.
